Calabasas Residents: Protect Your Home

The destruction from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria this week is difficult to fathom. Thousands of buildings collapsed, and the number of people killed continues to climb, with tens of thousands injured. Many organizations are offering humanitarian aid, but the freezing weather conditions are further endangering survivors and complicating rescue efforts, as aftershocks continue to strike the region.

Shaking in our Seats: Earthquake Science on the Big Screen

Moderated by seismologist Lucy Jones, a panel of scientists, engineers, and public officials will provide insight into what happens during and after earthquakes, how scientists and government officials interact, and the future of the field- discussing films such as 1974’s Earthquake and 2015’s San Andreas. Audience members will see Hollywood earthquake hits and misses and have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists.

Calabasas Evacuation Zones

Using the Zonehaven AWARE platform, first responders and residents will refer to the same set of Zone maps used for planning and conducting evacuations,” the city of Calabasas said in a news release. “Beginning with the Santa Monica Mountain region, residents can now see their ‘Zone’ and have access to information about emergency services in their zone, see real-time zone status updates, shelter options, and more.”
