Earth Day: Take Action!

Globally, we celebrated the 56th anniversary of Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22 when we bring focus to environmental protection and sustainability. This year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, highlights the importance of accelerating the transition to a green economy and encouraging meaningful civic action. In Calabasas, we held an Earth Day / Green expo on April 18, 2026 bringing together exhibitors from across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties to help residents learn about local programs, sustainability initiatives, and ways to take action at home and in the community.

Protecting our environment and preparing our communities go hand in hand. With wildfire risk and extreme weather part of our reality, sustainability is not just about conservation—it’s about safety, resilience, and being ready.

EPIC-FSC, in partnership with the City of Calabasas, believes that small, thoughtful actions can make a meaningful difference—for the planet and for our community’s ability to respond to emergencies.

Environmental awareness and preparedness are closely connected. Drought conditions, dry vegetation, and rising temperatures all increase wildfire risk across Southern California.

Simple, earth-friendly choices can also help reduce those risks:

  • Maintaining defensible space around your home
  • Choosing fire-resistant landscaping
  • Reducing yard waste and debris that can become fuel

Prepared communities are resilient communities, and Earth Day is a perfect time to take a fresh look at both.

5 Simple Ways to Make an Impact This Earth Day

You don’t need to do everything. Just start with one.

1.    Schedule Your Home Hardening Assessment

EPIC-FSC’s goal is to help protect all 8,400 homes in Calabasas by reducing wildfire risk and improving safety.

2.   Check Your Emergency Supplies

Update your go-bag with essentials like water, flashlights, batteries, medications, and important documents.

3.   Download the EPIC-FSC App!

The free app, available on both Apple and Google Play, provides tools and information to help individuals and families prepare for and respond to emergencies. Because information is stored permanently on users’ phones, the app remains accessible even during power outages and Internet connectivity issues.

4.   Plan Your Evacuation Route

Know at least two ways out of your neighborhood and review the plan with your family.

5.   Don’t Forget Your Pets 🐾

Emergency planning should always include your animals. Being prepared means protecting every member of your household.

Community Starts With Each of Us

Every step you take—downloading the EPIC app, checking your emergency kit, or scheduling your home hardening assessment—helps create a stronger, safer Calabasas.

Preparedness doesn’t happen all at once. It’s built over time through small, consistent actions.
