Calabasas Pumpkin Festival

Emergency Preparedness in Calabasas – A Fire Safe Council (EPIC-FSC) and the City of Calabasas will be distributing complimentary FRS radios to Calabasas residents during the annual Calabasas Pumpkin Festival, organized by the City’s Community Services Department. EPIC-FSC is a non-profit, established by dedicated community members who will also be on-site to share essential emergency preparedness guidance with neighbors. These efforts ensure that the community is well-informed and poised to manage any potential emergency scenarios, underscoring the city’s unwavering dedication to safety and preparedness.

Stay Informed During An Emergency

In an emergency, your radio and television might not work and cell phone service could be compromised as well. How will you reach your family? How will you know if you should evacuate? How will you know from which direction the risk is coming? How will you know when it is safe to repopulate? How will you get help?

EPIC-FSC has Calabasas residents covered through its Emergency Communication for Home Occupants (ECHO) program. This emergency communication platform provides Calabasas residents with a way to successfully navigate communications at the start of an emergency, during the event, and throughout the recovery phase.

Through these FRS radios, EPIC-FSC will send alerts about what’s happening and give updates at least once per hour of vetted, accurate and most up-to-date information. Calabasas residents will keep getting messages until everything is back to normal. The City has purchased a limited number of FRS radios to loan to residents for emergency communications. The radios will be pre-programmed to meet ECHO’s specifications. EPIC is also handling training and distribution and will train residents by conducting City-wide communications drills.
