On Sunday, November 2, we all get one extra hour. The volunteers at EPIC-FSC, in partnership with the City of Calabasas, invite you to use that “extra” hour by knocking out a few simple home-hardening tasks—or request an FRS Radio to book an appointment to attend our Emergency Radio (FRS) distribution taking place the same day.

A little bit of time can make your home easier to defend, less likely to ignite, and keep you connected to verified, neighborhood-specific emergency information and updates when it matters most.
One Hour. Lower Risk.
It’s your choice. Pick one or two of these, or stack a few. It’s time well spent.
Yard & Exterior
- Trim bushes and low branches touching the house or roof.
- Clear debris under plants, steps, and fences.
- Store patio cushions and umbrellas inside.
- Install 1/8-inch metal screens on all ground-level vents to block embers.
- Hire a handyman to install screens on roof/attic vents.
- Watch a handyman clean your gutters (or schedule service) and confirm downspouts are clear.
- Move firewood and other combustibles 30+ feet from structures.
- Verify large, reflective house numbers are visible from the street.
Learn & Connect (Fast Wins)
- Have a trained EPIC volunteer come to your home for a free Home Hardening Evaluation.
- Watch a short how-to video on installing wire-mesh vent screens (ground and roof).
- Save your evacuation-zone map and City alert links to your phone.
- Walk your household through a two-step plan: where to meet and who to text first.
Home Readiness
- Change smoke-alarm batteries and test carbon-monoxide monitors.
- Snap quick room photos for insurance documentation.
- Top up a grab-and-go kit (medications, pet supplies, key documents).
Get Your Emergency Radio (FRS)
EPIC-FSC, working with the City of Calabasas, is distributing special radios purchased by the City. These receive verified emergency amateur-radio transmissions tailored to residents inside Calabasas Evacuation Zones. This is how City of Calabasas residents will get information during an emergency when phones, power, and Internet are down.
- When: Sunday, November 2
- Where: Calabasas Community Center
- Time: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- By appointment only
- Request an FRS Radio on the EPIC website — free for Calabasas residents

Know Your Zone!
In an emergency, seconds matter. Confirm your Calabasas Evacuation Zone before wind season peaks.
- Look up your address here and save the location in the Genasys Protect app. You’ll receive alerts, warnings and orders through this system which the City now uses.
- Save a screenshot to your phone and print one for the fridge.
- Share your zone with family and neighbors so everyone’s on the same page.
If you do only one thing this Sunday, pick the task that reduces the most risk for your home. Small actions now can slow ember ignition, improve responder access, and keep your household safer when winds pick up.
