The City of Calabasas and the volunteers of Emergency Preparedness in Calabasas (EPIC-FSC) are committed to keeping our community safe from natural disasters and from crime. Safety doesn’t begin after a natural disaster happens. It begins with awareness.
Calabasas Crime Prevention Symposium: What You Need to Know
Join us at the Calabasas Crime Prevention Symposium to learn practical, expert-recommended strategies to protect your home, family, and yourself from unwanted intruders and increasingly sophisticated scams.
The event will feature important updates from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI, including current crime trends, prevention strategies, and actionable steps residents can take to strengthen home security.
🗓️ March 16 | 6:00–7:30 p.m.
📍 Founders Hall, 200 Civic Center Way
This community event will include:
- Current crime statistics and emerging trends
- Updates on residential burglaries and commercial theft
- Practical crime prevention strategies for homeowners and business owners
- Security company updates
- A City of Calabasas public safety update
Knowledge is a powerful deterrent. When residents understand patterns and prevention strategies, they are better equipped to protect themselves and their neighborhoods.
Home Hardening Isn’t Just for Wildfires
Simple maintenance choices can significantly reduce risk.
- Trim trees and overhanging branches. Criminals have been known to use second-story access points — particularly primary bedroom windows — which are often not connected to home security systems.
- Maintain clear sightlines. Dense bushes and overgrown landscaping can conceal small surveillance cameras used by organized crime rings to monitor activity and determine when homes are unoccupied.
- Ensure exterior lighting is functional and motion-activated where possible.
Prepared homes are less appealing targets.
👮 Crime Prevention Starts with Awareness
The same mindset that strengthens emergency preparedness also strengthens crime prevention.
Be alert. Be aware. If You See Something, Say Something
If you notice suspicious activity:
- Call 911 immediately.
- Consider connecting your security cameras to the Lost Hills Sheriff Station’s live monitoring system.
- Know your neighbors. Share your travel plans so someone can keep an eye on your home while you’re away.
- Request a residence check through the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Community Liaison Deputy by calling 818-878-1808.
Community vigilance is among the strongest deterrents available.
Preparedness is Layered Protection
EPIC-FSC focuses on wildfire readiness, evacuation planning, emergency communications, and disaster recovery — but safety is holistic. A prepared neighborhood is safer from fire, disasters, and crime.
When neighbors know one another.
When homes are well maintained.
When communication is active.
Risk decreases.
That’s the mission of EPIC-FSC: proactive safety, informed neighbors, and a community that looks out for one another.
Stay informed. Stay prepared. Stay connected.
