In addition to learning about the importance of wildfire preparedness, attendees of the much-anticipated event celebrating The Common’s 25th Anniversary are in for an unforgettable event filled with entertainment, food, family-friendly activities, and other information from other valuable resources in addition to EPIC-FSC. One of the highlights is a live performance by country music artist, Sophia Dion, who will captivate attendees with her soulful melodies and energetic stage presence.

Free Wildfire Assessment

Attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for a free wildfire home hardening assessment performed by EPIC-FSC volunteer experts. They will inspect homes in the area and provide personalized recommendations for improving resilience to wildfires and other natural disasters. And the timing couldn’t be more perfect as California homeowners face the ongoing challenge of wildfires.

“Fire season typically starts in the golden state as early as May, peaking from July through October, explains EPIC-FSC President Brian Cameron. “However, due to the effects of climate change, wildfires have become a yearlong problem here. Home hardening is recommended by CalFire and insurance companies as one of the best ways to protect homes from fires and limit the spread of wildfires in a community.”

Members of EPIC-FSC emphasize the importance of early preparation and proactive measures to safeguard homes and communities. By partnering with the experts at CalFire and the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains, EPIC-FSC volunteers are up to date on the actions homeowners can take now to make their structures, and the community safe long before a wildfire threatens the community.

During an assessment, knowledgeable volunteers will review a home’s defensible space— the required 100 feet of buffer homeowners must create between their property and the grass, trees, shrubs, or any wildland area that surround it. Creating more defensible space around a home is one of the critical aspects of protecting Calabasas communities, providing a barrier to slow, or even halt, the progress of fire that would otherwise engulf a property. It also helps ensure the safety of firefighters.

Together, we can make a difference

EPIC-FSC encourages attendees of The Commons at Calabasas Summerfest BBQ to visit their booth, engage with the experts, and learn about the proactive measures they can take to fortify their homes against wildfires. By joining forces with EPIC-FSC, community members can play an active role in safeguarding their neighborhoods. So, don’t miss EPIC-FSC at The Commons at Calabasas Summerfest BBQ.
