As we welcome a fresh year full of possibilities, the volunteers at EPIC-FSC (Emergency Preparedness in Calabasas), in partnership with the City of Calabasas, ask for your help in strengthening our community. At the top of the 2026 resolution list? Volunteering.
Giving back isn’t just good for Calabasas—it’s good for you. Volunteering connects neighbors, builds confidence, strengthens emergency readiness, and creates a sense of purpose and belonging. When you volunteer, you learn new skills, meet new people, and become part of something that genuinely makes our community safer and more resilient. Even a small-time commitment can make a tremendous difference.
Ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

This year, we invite you to join us in the work of keeping Calabasas prepared for emergencies. EPIC-FSC is entirely volunteer-powered, and there’s a role that could fit your interest, schedule, and skill set.
Volunteer with EPIC-FSC
There are many ways to get involved, whether you’re interested in public outreach, communications, logistics, or behind-the-scenes work. Here are some meaningful ways to participate:
🔹 Emergency Preparedness Events
Help staff EPIC booths at community events and share important preparedness information.
🔹 Neighborhood Networks
Connect with neighbors through FRS radios and learn how to communicate during an emergency.
🔹 Amateur (ham) Radio Communications
Licensed operators can serve as Duty Officers, relaying real-time emergency updates and keeping our communications strong.
🔹 Grant Writing & Administration
Support EPIC by researching and writing grant applications—critical for funding our programs.
🔹 Social Media Outreach
Help manage EPIC’s Instagram, Facebook, and NextDoor presence to spread tips, alerts, and preparedness messages.
🔹 Volunteer Recruitment & Organization
Assist with growing, engaging, and coordinating our amazing volunteer network.
Special Opportunity: Home Hardening Assessments
EPIC is seeking volunteers to train in Home Hardening assessments through Cal Fire.
Certified evaluators will help homeowners identify wildfire risks—and receive a $50 stipend per completed assessment thanks to grant funding.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn valuable skills, support wildfire safety in your own neighborhood, and make a measurable impact.

Whether you can volunteer weekly, monthly, or just once in a while, your time and enthusiasm truly matter. Together, we can continue building a safer, stronger, and more resilient Calabasas.

Volunteering is a powerful way to connect, contribute, and prepare. Let’s do this together and make 2026 EPIC!
As the current year sunsets and a new year dawns, when we wish each other Happy New Year it can be more than just a hope. We all remember last January when that happiness was shattered for so many. Our “Calabasas reality” is this – we are responsible for our own safety.
We can be our own saviors! Get prepared. Get ready. If you don’t feel safe, Get out! It’s the “Doing” that Makes the Difference!
