That’s why we’re reminding you that September is officially “Fire Preparedness Month” in Calabasas!

While the threat of wildfires has become a year-round concern, designating September as Fire Preparedness Month serves as a crucial reminder for all of us to focus on safeguarding our homes and community. It’s a time to come together and make sure our beloved community remains safe and resilient.

Here’s how you can participate and make a difference during the Emergency Preparedness in Calabasas Fire Safe Council’s (EPIC-FSC) Fire Preparedness Month:

Clear Gutters and Remove Plant Debris

Keeping your gutters clear and removing dry leaves and plant debris from your property is a simple yet effective way to reduce the risk of fire spreading.

Trim Bushes and Trees

Overgrown vegetation can act as fuel during a wildfire. Trimming bushes and trees around your home creates a defensible space that can help protect your property.

Create an Emergency Plan

Ensure your family has a well-thought-out emergency plan in place. This includes communication strategies, evacuation routes, and a designated meeting point. Make sure you have an out-of-town contact for check in purposes

Check Your Fire Safety Equipment

Test your smoke alarms, replace batteries, and make sure your fire extinguishers are in good working condition. These small actions can make a big difference in an emergency.

Schedule a FREE Home Hardening Assessment After learning how to harden homes from Cal Fire experts, EPIC-FSC members are here to help neighbors increase the likelihood of survival and property protection from wildfire. During a FREE assessment, a certified expert from the non-profit will meet with Calabasas residents, sharing insight and suggestions to help protect against the threat of flying embers, direct flame contact, and radiant heat exposure. Calabasas residents are encouraged to schedule a free home hardening assessment.
